The story of Sonantes Chamber Mixed Choir begun in october, 1991 when four students of Apáczai Csere János Grammar School have decided to give a "gift" concert for Christmas to their friends, classmates and parents as a surprise. The concert was held in a reformed church near to Lövölde Square (Budapest).

Roused by the success of the concert, the four students organized a concert one year later as well (by that time they had a couple more mambers), and once these concerts became regular. Everybody brought his or her friends, relatives and schoolmates from university; the Christmas concert was followed by an Easter concert and then a "Salute to Summer" concert. Our first order was a Christmas concert together with the "official" choir of the grammar school, which was conducted by Anikó Zakariás. (Anikó Zakariás was the director of Csili Chamber Choir, among other things she won a BBC great prize. She went to the Apáczai Grammar School in the fall of 1988 and made a very good choir from nothing within one year, which came through international and home competitions. Thanks to her living inspiring personality that Sonantes Kamarakórus came into existence.)

After this event - roused by its success - the nameless ensemble became a choir, so it is called Sonantes Chamber Choir from 1994. (The latin word "sonantes" means: "those who sound, sing".) The annual calendar of the choir was worked out, containing three own - the Christmas, Easter and "Salute to Summer" - concerts in a year.

The choir has been singing within the confines of Bárdos Lajos International Music Weeks, gave a concert for international scientists and students at Collegium Budapest, had charity concerts, and gave concerts abroad as well.

We have a wide repertoire from pieces of the middle ages to nowadays. We are opened to perform forgotten pieces, one of our biggest enterprises was Completorium (performed in june, 2000), written by Stanisław S. Szarzyński, which was written for choir, soloists and chamber orchestra.

Sonantes Chamber Mixed Choir had its (Hungarian) qualifier concert on 11 of June, 2002 at Piarist Chapel (Budapest), and got a "Golden" award.
